Son of William Erskine Marrs (1710-1790) and Pulsoholo Munday Folsom (1700-1779).
Alexander Marrs married Jane Reid Shannon (1754-1833) on 23 Sep 1779 in Fauquier Co, VA.
They had seven children: Robert Alexander (1788-1850): Joseph (1782-?); Rachel (1783-1858); Samuel Shannon (1785-1874); John A. (1788-1859); Hannah (1790-?); Mary (1792-?).
Two Marrs brothers and one Marrs sister married two Shannon sisters and one Shannon brother: Alexander Marrs married Jane Reid Shannon; James Marrs married Anna A. Shannon; and Margaret Marrs married John Shannon.
DOM also given as 1785 or 1786 in KY.
Military Service
Alexander Marrs was a veteran of the Revolutionary War. He served as a private in the VA militia. After the Revolutionary War, Alexander Marrs served actively as a Captain and company commander in the Montgomery Co, VA, militia from at least 23 Aug 1786 until he resigned and was replaced by Isaac Patton on 3 May 1796.
Location, Land Ownership, and Taxes
In Montgomery Co, VA, on 22 Nov 1785, Alexander Marrs, as the assignee of James Marrs, received a reward for one old wolf head.
On 4 Nov 1794, the Montgomery Co, VA, Court replaced Alexander Marrs with Henry Wiser as an overseer of roads.
On 7 Jul 1795, the Montgomery Co, VA, Court appointed Capt. Alexander Marrs and Capt. Isaac Patton to "procession" the 4th Precinct of the county.
By Aug 1820 Alexander Marrs with three family members and five slaves was living in Shelby Co, KY. He probably moved there from Montgomery Co, VA, in 1796 or soon thereafter.

Circuit Court of Orange Co. VA, deed 1798: John Marr, admin. of Alexander Marr decd. of Orange Co., James Marr & Elizabeth his wife, Alexander Marr and Matilda his wife, Elizabeth Marr, Nancy Marr, & Margaret Marr, parties of the 1st part to Augustine Webb, party of the 2nd part.
Agreement dated in 1760 states that Alexander Marr is a tailor.
Note: this must be a later generation (maybe Alexander & Matilda?).
"It is thought that Alexander came from Kentucky to Crawford County,Arkansas between 1828 and 1830 judging by the place of the birth of hischildren. They are listed in the 1830 census of Franklin County, Arkansas(then Crawford County) with four daughters under ten years of age and twosons under the age of five. They are in Washington County, Arkansas census of 1850 and had five sons and a female, Elizabeth Marrs, born in1824 in the household."
