MB. ALEXANDER McLEOD. The many friends of Mr. Alexander McLeod, of Radium Street, Martinboorugh, will learn with deep regret of his death, which occurred in the Masterton Hospital yesterday. The late Mr. McLeod, who had not enjoyed the best of health for the past twelve months, was one of the oldest and best known residents of Martinborough. Born in Caithness, Scotland, in 1842, he came to New Zealand 43 years ago and took up his residence in Martinborough where he conducted a store and boot shop. He later built a boot factory and was one of the pioneer manufacturers of Radium boot polish, from which originated the name of the street in which he resided. He took a keen and active interest in local body affairs and also rendered long and valued service in connection with various church activities. He is survived by a widow and two daughters, Mrs R. E. Wall and Miss J. McLeod, who will have the sympathy of a host of friends throughout the Wairarapa in their sad bereavement. Two sons died some time ago. The funeral will take place at Martinborough tomorrow, leaving the residence at 2 p.m. for the New Cemetery.
