About Alexander McKissick Stinnet

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=terrypend...

Alexander McKissack, a son of unknown McKissack and Elizabeth Wilkerson, was around 11 years old when his mother married John Stinnett. Alexander changed his name to Alexander McKissack Stinnett. When John Stinnett died, his mother gave the Stinnett family farm to Alexander, which caused an uproar with the three children of John and Elizabeth as well as the rest of the Stinnett family. Eventually, per court records, there were cash settlements with these children. Alexander McKissack never married Elizabeth Ide "Ibby" Perryman. Other researchers say Alexander was the son of John Stinnett, by an unknown wife, before John married Elizabeth. Some list her name as McKissick. She's also listed as an Indian by some.

Alexander was eleven or twelve years old at the time of his mother's second marriage. He was his mother's favorite child and when she gave him the family farm it caused an uproar in the rest of the Stinnett family. The other children later caused trouble over this and it must have gone on for quite a while. There are court records where they paid monetary sums to several of his children to cover their inheritance from John. As late as 1874, Elizabeth appeared in court and swore she had made and signed a deed for fifty acres of land to Alexander in 1866.

From the Minutes of the New Salem Baptist Church: '...Took up a case against Brother Alexander Stinnett for fornication and finding no proof he was acquitted for the same.'

Baptist farmer buried in Stinnett Cemetery.

GEDCOM Note

Their father was Alexander McKissick (name changed to Stinnett), son of ? McKissick and Elizabeth Wilkerson. Alexander was 11 or 12 years old when his mother (Elizabeth Wilkerson) married John Stinnett. Alexander changed his name to Stinnett after his mother remarried and had other children. Alexander was always his mother's favorite and after the death of John Stinnett, Elizabeth gave the Stinnett family farm to Alexander which caused an uproar with the other children and the rest of the Stinnett family. It went on for quite a while, because there are court reocrds where sums of money were paid to the other chidren to cover their inheritance form their father, John. Alexander Stinnett was married to Elmira Ball in March, 1830. They had 14 children. Elizabeth Ide "Ibby" Perryman was a servant in the Stinnett household. Elizabeth got pregnant by Alexander Stinnet twice. They had sons; Thomas Alexander and Stephen Jackson. Elizabeth chose to give the boys her last name (Perryman) since Alexander Stinnett wouldn't marry her. There is an entry in the New Salem Baptist Church minutes: "....Took up the case against Brother Alexander Stinnett for fornication and finding no proof he was acquitted of the same."

I also have a picture of Alexander McKissick Stinnett and of Elizabeth Wilkerson (his mother). I have names of the other Stinnett children of Alexander and Elmira Ball.
