March 1817 Capt. Moodie and 52 of his party set sail from London to South Africa NOT an 1820 Settler Party. Captain Benjamin MOODIE, Leith Militia, organised a party of 200 from Edinburgh. He sailed with 53 of them in "Brilliant:. In 1827, 37 followed in "Garland" and Surgeon ABERCROMBIE brought the remaining 90 in "Clyde", all in 1817. Initially they were employed at Cape Town by Captain MOODIE some going later to work for him at Grootvaders Bosch on the Swellendam district.
