Alfred Hulse Brooks was the son of Thomas Benton Brooks (1836-1900), who was also a geologist. On February 23, 1903 as Alfred H. Brooks, he married Mabel W. Baker at the District of Columbia. They were the parents of Mary (1905-1995) and Thomas Benton (born 1910). He was an American geologist who served as chief geologist for Alaska for the United States Geological Survey from 1903 to 1924. He graduated from Harvard University in 1894. He discovered the biggest mountain range in Arctic Alaska was separate from the Rocky Mountains.
