About Alfred William Climo
Engine Driver. Married Jane Augusta Kappley (1884-1975) at Pihama in Taranaki, on 31 October 1906. Died in Thames Hospital.
"Alfred's first job was as an engine driver but he changed to dairy factory work in 1902, working as an assistant at the Bulls factory. He later became the manager of the Rata factory and in 1905 moved to Pihama in Taranaki, where Alfred was appointed manager of the Skeet Road Creamery. A keen sportsman he played in a rugby match in which the All Blacks team was to be selected but Alfred had to withdraw from the game when he injured his knee. On 31 October 1906 Alfred married Jane Augusta Kappeley at Pihama. After their marriage they went to Paeroa and their first two children, Ivy Pauline and Alfred Claude were born. In 1913 they were at Hautapu, near Cambridge where youngest daughter Daphney Jane was born. Shortly afterwards they moved back to Paeroa where Alfred was manager of the local butter factory. In June 1915 Alfred developed appendicitis and was taken by train to Thames Hospital where he died a week later at the age of 30 years. He is buried in the Paeroa Cemetery."
