Alfred Schnell was married to Eva Jolowicz. The couple lived at Kapelweg 108 in Amersfoort. His mother, Jeny Schnell-Friedmann lived with them. Alfred Schnell was a chemist and as such an advisor on patent matters. Eva Schnell-Jolowicz was a teacher.
The couple went into hiding, first in Amersfoort and later in Oldebroek. By betrayal, they were caught on October 3, 1944 and shot dead with four others at the Engels Werk in Zwolle during the night of October 3 to 4. According to a witness at the execution, the prisoners had to dig their own graves and were shot two by two - man and woman - in the dug pit.
