Four years ago when the Sons of Veterans were organized in this city (Ft. Madison), the local organization was named after him in honor of the service he rendered while wearing the blue during the stormy days of '61-'65. Mr. Van Aken served as councilman from the first ward in 1917. Mr. Van Aken is survived by his wife, Mrs. A. O. Van Aken, and the following children: William F. Van Aken, Rockford, IL; George Van Aken, Davenport; Mrs. Teana Bell, Waupun, WI; Alfred Van Aken, Fort Madison; and Charles Van Aken, Fort Madison. He is also survived by one brother, N. D. Van Aken, of Des Moines, IA, 11 grand children and 12 great-grandchildren. Two children preceded him in death.
