Believed he married A.I.W. at Opotiki in 1875. They had trouble with the Maoris and a friendly Maori brought them down the river. When the Maori Wars finished he worked on the main trunk railway Auckland-Wellington living in the bush. Alice cooked maori-style on an open fire. He hurt his back on the railway.
"Granny and Grandfather White came to Auckland from Nelson. Grandfather had worked in a mental institution there but
was forced to leave as he didn't like the way patients were being treated. They settled in the Auckland suburb of
Greenlane and grandfather tuned church organs, in fact my mother used to go with him sometimes." [Source: BMW.]
