Algernon Percy, 1st Earl of Beverley was educated at Eton College, Eton, Berkshire, England.

He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for Northumberland between 1774 and 1786.

He succeeded to the title of 2nd Baron Lovaine [G.B., 1784] on 6 June 1786.

He gained the title of 1st Earl of Beverley, co. York [Great Britain] on 2 November 1790.

He was invested as a Fellow, Society of Antiquaries (F.S.A.) on 13 January 1820.

Collins writes that "His Lordship is remarkable for the elegance and suavity of his manners."
