About Syed Ali al-Asghar bin Imaam Ali-e-Zainul Abideen

He was a Ma'dani. Ali Zayn al-Abidin's son "Ali" was a Ma'dani.

He was born to a concubine and was the youngest of his progeny to leave issue. His son, al Hasan al Aftas, who was also born to a concubine, has been mentioned in the discussions of the uprising of 169 AH. Hasan al-Aftas’s son, al-Husayn, has also already appeared above as a leading participant in the insurrection of 199 AH. And his two sons, in turn, Ali and Muhammad, whose mothers are not identified, were killed on al-Mamun’s orders. Though I have not come across their names in the accounts of the uprising in 199 AH, they may well have participated in it. Al-Hassan al-Aftas’s son Abdallah, was also either killed at Fakhkh or in al-Rashid’s prison. The sources claim that his murder was not ordered by al-Rashid who was ready to grant him amnesty. In sum, a good number of the descendants from al-Hassan al-Aftas were involved or implicated in subversive political activities against the authorities throughout the early Abbasid period. The traditionally recognized leaders of these revolts were of course Hassanids. Ref: page 171 of “The Religious Elite of the early Islamic HIjaz: Five Prosopographical Case… by Asad Q. Ahmed.

His mother's name was stated differently: Jayda, Jayd, Haydan, and Hawra' are the most famous ones. She was a bondwoman, who was bought by al-Mukhtar al-Thaqafi; she was respected highly by al-Mukhtar that he gave her as a gift to Imam al-Sajjad (a). Imam al-Sajjad (a) had other children apart from Zayd:

'Ali, 'Umar, and Khadija, from her. see lineage of Zayd https://en.wikishia.net/view/Zayd_b._al-Imam_al-Sajjad_(a)#Lineage
