NOTE: This Hord genealogy site names Maria Bulkeley as the wife of John Hord, I, not Alice Bulkeley; however, it gives Maria the same date of death - 20 July 1426 - as given by W.S.E. to Alice, as well as stating that Maria was born in Watercroft, Chester. This would seem to imply that Maria and Alice are in fact the same individual, though its not clear where the different names originated.

Although the above site attributes its information to Rev. Arnold Harris Hord, his book Genealogy of the Hord Family, clearly names John's wife as Alice, not Maria: "John Hoord, of Bridgenorth, obiit (died) May 31, 1494; married Alice, daughter of William Bulkeley, of Beaumaris (of Watercroft), County Chester, Esq., who died) July 20, 1426."

The Hord website also states that Richard Hord, husband of Elizabeth Mathew, was a son of Maria; W.S.E. equally states that this same Richard was the son of Alice.

Irrespective of that, the 1426 death date is itself curious, since all sources name some of the children of Hoord and Bulkeley as:

- Alan Hord, born c.1480 - 1490 (at the latest, since Alan is recorded as being admitted to the Middle Temple on 4 July, 1514, Source: Surrey Archaeological Collections, 1858);

- Thomas Hord, born c.1480 - 1494 (his only daughter, Frances Fermor nee Hord, having born born c.1516, Source: W.S.E.)

- Edmund Hord, born c.1470 - 1480 (he was made a Fellow of All Souls' College, Oxford, in 1504; Source: Gutch's Oxford, iii. 30)

Based on the above, Mrs. Hoord nee Bulkeley cannot have died c.1426; the date may have been a misprint, introduced in the work of William Smith Ellis and copied by Rev. Arnold Harris Hord, or it may have an earlier origin. Either way it seems very suspect.
