Alice Ann Charlton

NOTE from Craig Sheldon: According to William Smith Ellis ("Notes to Pedigree of Hord", as printed in The Topographer and Genealogist, Vol. I, 1846, edited by John Gough Nichols), the wife of William Charlton of Apley was Anne Hord, not Alice. That is, this profile of Alice, and that of Anne, should probably be merged. However, their parents are not the same.

W.S.E. also gives Anne's parents as Thomas Hoord (Sheriff of Salop, 1488) and Joyce Stapleton, not the earlier Thomas Hoord (Sheriff of Salop, 1457, and grandfather of the former Thomas Hoord) and Alice Palmer.

NOTE: According to at least one record, her first name was Alicia or Alice, not Anne, Hord; however, this seems unlikely given that her sister was apparently named Alice, who married Richard Lacon:

"Probably Richard Charlton of Hay, son of William Charlton of Apley and Alicia, daughter of Thos. Hord of Bridgnorth, who married d. of Eyton of Eyton. Arms. — Or a lion rampant, gu., Charlton. Arg. on a chief or a raven, ppr., Hord."
