Alice Edna (Shockey)Hawkins, 1911-2006

MONTE VISTA — Longtime Monte Vista resident Alice Edna Hawkins, 94, died February 25, 2006 at the Mountain Meadows Nursing Home in Monte Vista. Alice was born September 10, 1911 in Minco, Oklahoma to John Wesley and Mary Martha Crites Shockey. She married Harold Vernon Hawkins on February 17, 1932 in Grady County, Oklahoma, and he preceded her in death March 9, 1959.

Alice worked for many years at the Toltec Dry Cleaners, which was later changed to McDonalds Dry Cleaning. She also worked as a waitress at Mom's Hash House. She enjoyed arts and crafts and was fond of beadwork, crocheting afghans and quilts, and making Christmas ornaments. She had a great love of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. She also enjoyed going to the family cabin and time in the mountains. Alice was an active member of the Monte Vista VFW Auxiliary.

Alice was an avid wrestling fan and football fan. She enjoyed watching WWF wrestling matches on television and liked watching Denver Broncos play.

She is survived by her children Dorothy (John) Andre of Salida, Billie Jean (Don) Farnham of Monte Vista, Doris (Gerald) Cossel of Monte Vista, Shirley (Marion) Telinde of Parker, Colo., Lynn (Don) Plane of Del Norte, Glenn (Peg) Hawkins of Federal Heights, Colo., and Robert Lee Hawkins of Del Norte; her sister Myrtle Clements of Port Arthur, Texas; her son-in-law Vester Fausett of Muskogee, Okla.; as well as 25 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and 21 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter Velma Fausett on May 11, 1999, her grandsons Richard Plane on Aug. 28, 1990, and James Allen Fausett, 12 brothers and 2 sisters.

A Funeral Service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 1 at the First Christian Church in Monte Vista. Interment will follow services in the Monte Vista Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital of Memphis, Tenn. in care of the funeral home office.
