ALICE (ALCEY) CATLETT THORNTON-FITZHUGH was born on 21 August 1729 in Crowes, King George County, Virginia, and she was the daughter of Rowland Thornton (1685-1742) and Elizabeth Catlett (1689-1751).

Alice Catlett Thornton married John Fitzhugh on 30 Oct 1746 in Stafford County, Virginia. John and Alice had THIRTEEN children (that are known of) during their marriage:

Henry Fitzhugh (1747-?), John Thornton Fitzhugh (1749-1809), George Fitzhugh (1751-1810), Thomas Fitzhugh (1753-1829), Elizabeth Fitzhugh-Conway (1754-1823), Susanna Fitzhugh-Conway (1756-1819), William Fitzhugh (1757-1803), Alice Fitzhugh-Dixon-Pratt (1759-?), Francis Fitzhugh (1761-1821), Daniel McCarty Fitzhugh (1763-1823), Sarah Ann Fitzhugh-Thornton (1765-1820), Thornton Fitzhugh (1768-1804), and Ann Rose Fitzhugh-Thornton (1769-?).
