About Alice Woodbury

Not the same as Alice Blish

Alice was probably born in England, but her parentage and date of birth are not known. We estimate a birth date of about 1657 (seen as Feb 6 1657 in Marblehead) based on the birth date of her oldest known child of 1679 (at age 21). She possibly married in England also, because no record seems to exist of her marriage in new England.

She was the wife of John Darby, a fisherman of Marblehead, Massachusetts. He died in 1690, leaving her with five [four?] children.

Soon after the settling of his estate, on July 2, 1690 in Beverly, Essex County, Massachusetts, Alice Darby was married to John Woodbury of Beverly by Maj. Samuel Appleton. He was the son of Humphrey Woodbury and the widower of Elizabeth Tenney. They had seven children.

The date of her death is unknown but her youngest child was born in 1701.

She is not to be confused with Alice Blish, widow of John Derby of Yarmouth and 3rd wife of Abraham Blish, who was a much older woman.
