About Alice de Tosny

Note: The wife of Walter de Beauchamp of Elmley was Alice de Tosny (b. bef 1239), daughter of Raoul VI de Tosny & his wife Pernel de Lacy. Charles Cawley [http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/ENGLISHNOBILITYMEDIEVAL3T-Z.htm#Ali...] notes that "Pope Nicholas IV granted dispensation to 'Walter de Bello Campo' and 'Alice daughter of Ralph de Tonny to remain in the marriage they contracted in ignorance that they were related in the fourth degree of kindred”, and declared 'their offspring legitimate, dated 23 Sep 1289 [Bliss (1893), Vol. I, p. 503.

However, various sites have confused her with a possible niece Alice de Tosny possibly born c. 1254, possible daughter of her brother Roger VI and his wife Alice de Bohun, OR with her grandniece Alice de Tosny (aka de Toeni) b. 1284, daughter of Ralph VII de Tosny, who married Sir Thomas Leybourne, Guy de Beauchamp Earl of Warwick, and William la Zouche de Mortimer.
