Alma Margaret Crosby

Alma M. Crosby, 82, of S. Center Street, Bear Lake, Pa., died Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa. She was born March 26, 1927 in Bear Lake, daughter of the late Orval and Leona Chapman Mapson. She was raised and educated in Columbus Township and attended Columbus High School. Following her marriage, her main priority was raising and caring for her family. As a young woman, she had worked at Aero Supply Co. in Corry and for 11 years, she had been employed at Sylvania Corp. in Warren. She retired from Cummins Engine Company in Lakewood, N.Y. in 1985 after eight years with the company. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and deer hunting. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member of the Bear Lake United Methodist Church and over the years held many offices in the church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by three sisters, Adella Davis, Francis Nixson and Pansy Jones; three brothers, Otto and Arthur Hamilton and Orville Mapson Jr; and by two grandsons, Luke Crosby and Michael Canaan. She is survived by her husband, Claude A. Crosby whom she married February 3, 1944 in Jamestown, N.Y. She is also survived by two daughters, Lois Abbott and her husband, Robert of Birmingham, Ala. and Gloria Canaan and her husband, Raymond of Winder, Ga.; and by a son, Gary Crosby and his wife, Bonnie of Panama, N.Y.; five grandchildren; fourteen greatgrandchildren; two greatgreatgrandsons and several nieces and nephews also survive.
