About Almon Lewis Sellers

From: Hugh and Sandy Sellers hubie19@swbell.net

"One Hundred and Fifty Years of the Sellers Family" by Joy Wilson The published work is in the Texas State Library, not copyrighted, nor is the author's address given or known. Created with photos and documentation and a "promise" of other lines to be researched, obviously with a love of genealogy and her SELLERS roots. Page 3 "This history of the Sellers Family starts with the 1830 Census of Brunswick County, North Carolina. Listed on page 317, Line 5, is Almond Sellers, age 20 to 30, Almond would have been 23, living with him is one female age 20 to 30 and Prudence would have been 23, also one male age listed as under 5, this would have been Edmond Eldred, their first child and he would have been 9 months. They are living next door to Eldred Sellers. In the Family Bible of Almond and Prudence it is listed the Almond and Rebecca Sellers Boyd are brother and sister. Checking the 1820 Census of Brunswick County, North Carolina, North Carolina shows that Eldred Sellers has two children the right ages for Almond and Rebecca. This plus the fact that they named their first child Eldred convinces me that Eldred is the father of Almond. Listed in the court records of Brunswick, North Carolina was the settlement of the Estate of Joel Robbins. The first heir was Prudence Robbins Sellers, this plus the fact that she named one of her sons Joel convinces me that Joel Robbins was the father of Prudence. The 1840 Census of the United States found Almond and Prudence in Alabama in the County of Pike. They had however like North Carolina and moved into Florida for awhile as the 5th child, Christopher (Kit) was listed in the Family Bible as having been born in or near Tallahassee, Florida. Christopher was born in 1836 in Florida and Solomon Reeves was born in 1839 in Pike County, Alabama. Twin girls Mary Eliza and Prudence were born in Brunswick in 1834. So I will say they left North Carolina in 1835, going to Florida and then left Florida going into Alabama in 1837 or 38. They were on both the 1840 and 1850 Census of Pike County, Alabama with their children and seven slaves. Angeline was their last child and she was born in 1852. The Census had listed her as being born in Alabama, but the Family Bible listed her as being the only child born in Texas. They are listed on the 1860 Census of Coryell County, Texas on Page 292, Line 394. They are listed as A.L. Sellers age 53, a farmer, with property valued at $2,200.00 and personal property at $1,000. Prudence was 52 and living with them were Joel, 19, doing farm labor, Elizabeth, 14; John, 11; Angeline, 7; Christopher, 30 doing carpenter work and Solomon, 21 also a carpenter. Penny and Mary and E.E. were living in their own homes near their parents. They are listed on the 1870 Census of Coryell County, Page 273 and Joel L. Sellers is listed in the 1880 Census on page 18 along with many of his brother and sisters living near by. The 1900 Census is the last Census available and Joel L. Sellers and Mary Ann and their family are listed near each other."
