About Alois John Klassen

Alois "Al" Klassen, 86, of St. Martin, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000, at the St. Cloud Hospital. Services were held on Friday, July 14, at 11 a.m. at St. Martin Catholic Church. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Al was born in St. Martin to Mathias and Gertrude (Schaefer) Klassen. He married Marie Moscho on Oct. 14, 1940, in St. Martin Catholic Church. The couple farmed five miles northwest of St. Martin. Al also worked as the caretaker of the Middle Spunk I-94 rest area near Avon for 14 years.

Al was a member of the St. Martin Catholic Church, the St. Benedict Society, St. Joseph Men's Society, Catholic Aid, and the Knights of Columbus.

Al is survived by his wife, Marie of St. Martin; children Veneel Mehr of Twin Falls, Idaho, Athleen Dingman of Freeport, Robert of St. Martin, Jean Haider of Belgrade, Larry of St. Cloud, Mary Fiedler of St. Martin, and Tom of Maple Lake; brother, Peter of St. Joseph; sister, Walburga "Wally" Meyer of Freeport; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Al was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda in 1957; granddaughter, Sandra Haider in 1991; brothers, Mathias, Nicholas, Norbert, and Paul; sisters Anna Pfau, Clara Brix, Hildegard Wieber, Scholastica Flint; and Rose Klassen.
