About Alonzo Dallas Eisenhower
Educator. He was the son of John Frederick Eisenhower and Catherine Jane Miller. His first teaching position was in a county school in Dickenson Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. In 1866-67 he taught at the Soldier's Orphan School in Paradise, Lancaster County. His next position was Supervising Principal of Shippensburg Schools in Shippensburg, Cumberland County. In the fall of 1873 he recieved an appointment as Principal of Norristown High School on Oak Street in Norristown. He served as Principal of Norristown High School for forty-three years. The School Board, on March 17, 1924, changed the name of Norristown High School to The A. D. Eisenhower Senior High School to honor his long service to the district. When the new high school was built in 1937-38 at Markley Street and Coolidge Blvd., Norristown, the name of A. D. Eisenhower Senior High School was retained It is now the A. D.
