"George Chester & William's father, Alonzo Wallace, a twin, was born in Lenox, Madison County, New York, June 25, 1834. He was the 4th child of eleven born to George Wallace and Abigail Branch. Alonzo married Elizabeth Ott in 1856. Children born to Alonzo and Elizabeth are: Chester, William, Charles, Anna, Mary, John, Loyal, Lorenzo, Mertie, Goldie, and Blanche."
"Alonzo was a farmer in New Haven Township, Shiawassee County, Michigan. During the Civil War, Alonzo enlisted in Company H, 23rd Infantry, August 12, 1862 for 3 years at the age of 26. Mustered out at Salisbury, NC, Jun3 28, 1865 with the rank of Corporal. He developed a lung disease during his military service. This disease greatly affected his ability to farm and support his family. He petitioned and received a pension from the Union Army, $4/month, later raised to $10."
