About Aloysious Moore

www.geni.com/media/proxy?media_id=6000000204168551880&size=medium
Aloysious was (probably) Lakota (Brule) Sioux, (Kul Wicasa Oyate, Sicangu Lakota, "Burnt Thighs Nation"), Rosebud Reservation
(Curator Note: I say probably because while he is listed in the Rosebud Reservation census reports, his father and family are listed in the Brule Sioux section of the report until 1907, thereafter in the consolidated Rosebud Sioux census)

Biography:
Aloysious, born c. 1894, the oldest of 8 siblings, to parents Henry and Mary Moore. Henry was mixed, his father was white, and his mother was Sioux. Henry is seen in the census records for 1892 as not yet married nor does he have children.

According to Carla Joinson in her book Vanished in Hiawatha, Aloysious was committed to the Canton Asylum on May 13, 1917, but no diagnosis was given.

Per the letter dated February 17, 1934, Dr. L.L. Culp to the Commissioner of Indian Affairs, Aloysious died at the Canton Asylum on May 12, 1923, and was buried in the Canton Hiawatha Cemetery, tier 2 plot 55

His profile is part of the The Canton Asylum One Place Study.

Research Notes:
-Aloysious and his family are in the Rosebud Agency, Brule Sioux census up until 1905, they were either Brule Sioux or Sioux living among the Brule Sioux.
