About Althera Merintha Dye (Draper)
Althera Dye was born into a "Mormon" polygamist family. Her parents were Wm. Draper, Jr. and his 6th wife Fanny Newton-Draper. Wm. Draper also married, as his 7th wife, Fannys younger sister Ruth Hannah Newton. The Newton sisters shared one home with their husband and children an arrangement that worked very well for the circumstances. Althera was one of seven children born to Fanny & Wm Draper, JR. Althera was a beautiful woman in her teens when she met John Hyrum Dye who had come to work in Wales coal mines in Sanpete County. They married and eventually had five children: John Willis 1884 Moroni, UT; Fanny Althera 1886 Wales, UT; Sarah Louisa 1888, St. Joseph, Lincoln, NV; Vivian Merle (son) 1890, Jerome, Yavapai, AZ and Lilan May 1892, Jerome, AZ. John and Althera lived over thirty years in Bisbee, Cochise, AZ. Althera was grief sticken when her youngest son Vivian died after a shotgun accidentally discharged when he was 18 years old.
They moved to Burbank about 1930 where Althera died 2 days before her 70th birthday.
