Altijn "Aletta" Gerritsz van Deventer was a carrier, not the carrier of the R59W SA Porphyria mutation. Ariaantje Abrahamse Jacobs, SM/PROG her mother, my 7th great grandmother and according to the late Sir Geoffrey Dean and UCT porphyria specialists, is the carrier of the R59W SA mutation. Dean subsequently traced the origins of VP to the marriage of this Dutch couple in Cape Town in 1688. (Dean G, Barnes HD. Porphyria; a South African screening experiment. Ariaantje and Gerrit Jansz van Deventer had 8 children and four carried the gene and that includes their daughter Altijn "Aletta" Gerritsz van Deventer, b4 (Altijn is not my 7th great grandmother - GENI?)

It is still uncertain today which of these two carried the R59W SA mutation.
