About Alvin M. Hershberger

MILLERSBURG - Alvin “Hersh” Hershberger, 92, entered into the arms of his savior while surrounded by his family late Saturday night, August 15, 2020 after weeks of declining health.

He was born June 27th, 1928 in Charm, Ohio to Mose and Mary (Troyer) Hershberger.

He was the owner and founder of Hershberger Builders & Sons for 38 years and he worked for True Value (formerly Western Auto) for 25 years; ultimately retiring at the age of 88.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Katie (Miller) Hershberger. He is survived by his six children James (Rosa) Hershberger, Loren (Jenny) Hershberger, Larry (Judy) Hershberger all of Millersburg, Myron “Zeke” (Angela) Hershberger of Holmesville, Judy Hershberger of Wooster, and JoAnn (Don) Shoup of Orrville.

Alvin is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and two brothers: Ray Hershberger of Millersberg and Levi Hershberger of Texas

He was also preceded in death by his siblings Katie Bowman, Ervin, and Melvin Hershberger.

He had more fishing stories than there were hours left in the day and could talk to nearly anyone. He was a permanent fixture at The Boyd & Worthman and his laughter could be heard from counter top to the front door. He enjoyed cookouts that would last all weekend long and hunting any opportunity he could. His passions were his family and serving the Lord; a true fisherman of men.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Aug. 18th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Grace Church. Graveside service and burial will be at 9am Wednesday, Aug. 19th at Grace Church Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at 10am. at Grace Church with pastors Larry Kaufman and Ben Raber officiating. All is open to friends and family.
