Notes

  • Along with the Walter Wood plant, Hoosick Falls was a boomtown in the 19th century. Many other businesses came into town, bringing people and money with them. Hoosick Falls once had factories that made Paper, small numbers of Appliances, Parts, Glass, and some nominal Soda and Beer Bottling Plants. A large number of rich Victorian homes were built during this period and are still there today, most in good shape. This was also a regional center of Trade and Export. Local farmers and manufacturers would come to town to sell their goods and load them on rail cars bound for New York City or abroad. These goods consisted of manufacturers, grain, milk, livestock, construction materials (mostly slate and brick), paper & pulp, timber and beverages. Wikipedia
  • Very little is known about the Kenyon line you're asking about. I believe there's a confusion of Kenyons named Amasa. I have one, b. Dec 1772 in S. Kingtown RI, bu. 7 Jun 1857 in Hoosick Falls, Rensselaer Co. NY. He m. 15 Mar 1792 in Hoosick NY, Mary "Polly" Sailisbury, b. 5 May 1774, d. 24 Dec 1839 in Hoosick Falls NY. (I'm sorry but I don't know the source of this information). I have a list of his children (without any dates) as follows: Patience, Mary, Ruth, Amasa, Samuel, Daniel, Betsey, Sally, Robert H., unnamed male, Mary, Prudence, and George W. ? The most frequently cited Kenyon genealogy is the one, "Am. Kenyons and English Connections" by Howard N. Kenyon, published in 1935 by the Tuttle Co. of Rutland VT. Reprints can be ordered on demand from Tuttle and othes (such as Higginson) for about $50. However, it won't supply anything new and it may take a month or more to get delivery. Using the system of IDs of HNK's book, the Amasa Kenyon, b. 1772, has an ID = 1643. Amasa Kenyon does appear in the 1850 census for Hoosick, Rensselaer Co. NY (p. 348A, line 6) in the folowing household: Hawks, Henry, 50, m. B VT ? (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~rmacdonald/geneal...) Sources
