"There is conflicting information as to the parents of Ambroise. They Came and They Stayed by Laise Ledet has his parents as Jacques and Jeanne Melancon and Generations Past and Present has his parents as Francois and Angelique Blanchard. Ray Arcement in his site on the internet list Ambroise parents as Francois Naquin and Angelique Blanchard. In The Lafourche Country, p. 91, author, Betty Himel Boudreaux, may not be certain of the parents of Ambroise either. She didn't list any parents for Ambroise."

Terrebonne Life Lines v. 17, #3, p. 169 The Naquin Family by Audrey Westerman

Ms. Westerman confirms Ambroise's parents as Jacques Naquin and Jeanne Melancon. Ms. Westerman is a widely respected genealogist and professional publisher of genealogical books. (Oct. 1998) In the same article she states Ambroise and his family were No. 24 on the ships list of the St. Remi in 1785 when they came to Louisiana.

arrived in New Orleans about 1785 on Le Saint Remi: Because of congestion and unhealthy conditions aboard the vessel, diseases claimed the lives of numerous passengers during the voyage. Smallpox killed twelve children, while scurvy took the lives of three women. Following their arrival in New Orleans on December 5, 1785, an additional sixteen Acadians died as a result of smallpox.

The Saint-Rémi was a 400 ton ship. Leaving Nantes, France on June 27, 1785, under the command of Captain Baudin, it departed with 325 Acadians and 16 stowaways to New Orleans, Louisiana, arriving September 10, 1785. Fifteen passengers died en route.
