Having married in Humphreys County, Tennessee, he subsequently moved to Dickson County, Tennessee, in 1819,to southwestern Illinois, In 1821; and to Randolph County, Missouri, in 1823. His first Missouri home was in the vicinity of Mt. Airy, between Huntsville and Roanoke. He was listed as an influential and prominent member of the Happy Zion Baptiast Church, which was known as the Silver Creek Church after August 1827. He and his wife were life-long members of the Baptist Church.
Ambrose moved northeastward, and was one of the first settlers of the Middle Fork settlement consisted of Ambrose Halliburton, William H Rowland, Eben Enyart, Burrell Freeman, William Ware, Judge Rowland, James Rowland, Ashcraft C. Peyton, and Benjamin Robuck.
By 1850, Ambrose was a farmer and valuable citizen of Randolph County. He was intrumental in the establishment of schools and churches, and the organization of civil government. Court records at Huntsville, Missouri attest to his participation in the affairs at hand.
