About Amee Gage

In the Spring 2021 issue of NEHGR, the authors made the case that Amy, wife of John Gage, was an additional daughter of Thomas French and Susan Riddlesdale and that she was born between 1611-1613 when there was a gap in the baptism records:

"That Susan (French) Kinsbury's son called John Gage "uncle" in 1665... and John Gage called Alice (French) Howlett's husband "brother" in 1673..., compounds the likelihood that Thomas and Susan French had a daughter Amy whose baptism was not recorded in Assington."[2] She married John Gage of Ipswich by about 1638 (based on the estimated birth of a first child born in that year).

She died in June 1658 in Ipswich, Massachusetts.

Find a Grave uses the name Amee "Amy" Kingsbury Gage but no sources are provided nor any images to her gravestone. [3] Children

▼ The Possible Identity of Amy/Amee _____, first wife of Captain John Gage
"The only hint we have as to who she may have been may be in the fact that her son Josiah, who, although twice married, died without issue, in his will after remembering his brothers and their children makes a request to his 'cousin Whittaker.' This cousin Whittaker was Mary Wilford daughter of Gilbert Wilford, the first wife of John Corliss and then of John Whittaker. Gilbert Wilford was an attesting witness to the will of John Gage. The word cousin in this will, in a bequest to one Mehitable Gage, is undoubtedly used with the meaning of niece. Another hint of relationship may be afforded by the fact that in a deposition of one Alexander Sessions it appears that Henry Kingsbury's son called Sergt. John Gage his 'Uncle."
