About Amos Leroy Gingerich

Leroy Gingerich, age 98, of Versailles, passed away Tuesday morning, March 7, 2006, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia. He was born February 16, 1908 at Kalona, Iowa, a son of Amos and Nannie D. Yoder Gingerich. He was united in marriage on May 18, 1932 in Versailles, with Mary Alice Driver, who preceded him in death on December 17, 1996. Leroy was a school teacher, farmer, and Mennonite Minister having pastured churches at Wood River and Cairo, Nebraska, and Mt. Zion Mennonite Church near Versailles for many years. He is survived by one son, Jim Gingerich and wife Susan, of Versailles; one daughter, Naomi Gingerich of Versailles; three brothers, Paul E. Gingerich of Kalona, Iowa, Simon Gingerich of Elkhart, Indiana, and Clayton Gingerich of Mountain Home, Arkansas; two sisters, Eunice Histand of Goshen, Indiana, and Lois Bender of Kalona, Iowa; two grandchildren, Robert Crain and Deborah Washburn, two great-grandchildren, Samantha and Ryan Gingerich, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred, Truman and Orie Gingerich, and one sister, Charity Troyer. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 11, at Bethel Mennonite Church near Versailles. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles.
