About Amos H. Shaub
City Car Victim Former General Hospital Orderly Amos H. Shaub, eighty-seven, 732 N. Lime St., who died early Monday in General Hospital as a result of injuries received when struck by a car Sunday night, was a retired orderly at the hospital.
He also operated a boarding house and restaurant across from St. Joseph's Hospital.
City Traffic Captain Kenneth Witmer said he will confer with District Attorney Alfred C. Alspach before deciding if charges will be brought against Harrison LaRosa, fifty, 712 E. Madison St., who was driving the car which hit Shaub. The accident occurred on Clay Street, near Lime.
RETURNING FROM CHURCH City police said Shaub was returning from a church service in Lititz with his brother-in-law, Benjamin F. Martin, of Crestview, Fl, who was driving the car that he stepped out of.
Police said Shaub climbed out of the car, stepped to the curb as the Martin car pulled away, and then began walking across the street on his way home.
LaRosa, a fireman on the Pennsylvania Railroad, said he did not see Shaub because of his dark clothing and was unable to stop in time. LaRosa was traveling east on Clay Street.
Shaub, who lived alone at the Lime St. address, was born in New Providence, a son of the late Samuel and Elizabeth Hostetter Shaub. He lived in the city since 1929. His wife, the late Mary D. Martin Shaub, died several years ago.
A member of Mellingers Mennonite Church, he was the last of his family.
