About Amy Hancock
Amy Ward was born 28 Feb 1769 in Somers,Tolland, Connecticut, the daughter of General Jacob & Irena Jones Ward. She married Thomas Hancock, the son of Thomas & Jemima Wright Hancock, May 25 1786 in Longmeadow, MA. They were the parents of 10 children: Elijah, Thomas, Elizah, Clarissa, Solomon, Alvah, Joseph, Levi Ward, Sarah Abbott & Amy Hancock. The Hancock family joined the Mormon Church in 1830, after Thomas heard speaches by Parley Pratt, Sidney Rigdon & Oliver Cowdrey. They also knew the family of Mormon founder Joseph Smith. They were among the Mormon converts enroute to Utah, when Amy died. Her husband Thomas died in Illinois October 1, 1844. Son Alvah died in Iowa, son Solomon died at Winter Quarters, NB. The only family members to survive the trip and make it to Utah were Sarah "Sally", Joseph, Levi Ward & Clarissa.
