About Ananias Dare
Ananias Dare (c. 1560 – June 27, 1587, legal death) was the husband of Eleanor White, whom he married at St Bride's Church[1] in Fleet Street, City of London. He was father of Virginia Dare, whose birth on August 18, 1587 was the first recorded to English parents on the continent of North America.
Dare was a London tiler and bricklayer.[2] Very little else is known of Dare other than the birth of his child, but his father-in-law, John White, was appointed the first Governor of Sir Walter Raleigh's Roanoke colony in the same year, 1587, and was also the first scientific illustrator appointed by Queen Elizabeth I, to illustrate everything in particular that he observed was different or foreign to English eyes.
