HUNTER SHOOTS AT DEER; KILLS MAN

Iron River, Mich., Jan. 5 - Andrew Berg, aged 45 years, of Amasa, was accidentally shot and killed by Andrew Sand New Years day while hunting. Sand shot at a deed that jumped up side. He died in the woods before medical aid could reach him.

Berg, with his son, Utley, and Sand, went hunting on the Little Hemlock. About six miles from Amasa the party divided. While traveling in this manner a deer near Sand jumped up. He fired at the animal. The bullet missed its mark and struck Berg in the side.

The wounded man dropped to the ground, uttering a cry, beside his son, Sand heard the cry and ran to assist Berg. Utley Berg was sent back to Amasa to summon a physician while Sand remained with the wounded man. Before a doctor arrived Berg was dead. He remained conscious until almost death, Sand said, which occurred an hour after the accident.

A coroner's inquest was held, although it was an admitted accident by Berg before he died, and by his son, Utley.

Berg formerly lived with his family in Iron River four years. He moved to Amasa about four years ago. He is survived by a widow and six children.
