About André Weinfeld

An alumnus of prestigious Lycée Louis-le-Grand in Paris, André Weinfeld (born Paris, France, 6 April 1947) is a film and television producer, director, screenwriter, photographer and journalist.

After receiving a Master Degree in Psychology and French Literature at the Sorbonne University, he graduated Cum Laude from the Institut des hautes études cinématographiques (IDHEC), the internationally renowned French Film School.

After numerous collaborations, first as a Film Camera Operator and then as a Cinematographer, to several "French New Wave" short and full-length feature films (with among others Philippe Garrel, Jean Eustache, Néstor Almendros, etc.) André Weinfeld became - at age 19 - the youngest television director, producer and journalist in France.

For the next 10 years, André involved himself in directing, reporting and producing over 70 weekly news and documentary magazine programs and French Network Specials covering everything from fashion (Dim Dam Dom), to the 1960s and 1970s Rock'n Roll and Pop music scenes in "Swinging London" and in the US where he met American impresario and producer Giorgio Gomelsky, covered major music events like the Monterey International Pop Festival, the Woodstock Festival and worked with many major musicians, among them Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Janis Joplin, Otis Redding, Eric Burdon and The Animals, Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger, Blossom Toes, The Yardbirds, Donovan, James Brown, Steve Winwood, Eric Clapton, Pink Floyd, etc.) and world political issues (Palestinian Refugees, American Indian Movement, International Summit Meetings, Interviews and Features of world leaders like President Charles de Gaulle, Israeli Premier Menachem Begin, General Moshe Dayan and Zaire President Mobutu), accepting as well several "hard news" assignments as a Special War Correspondent to Israel, Syria and Lebanon during the Six Day War, the Yom Kippur War and in Vietnam in 1975.

After serving for one year as a director of several feature and documentary films in the French Army Cinema Service (ECPAD), André Weinfeld wrote and directed in 1976 his first feature short "La Bonne Nouvelle" (The Good News), with Claude Chabrol, Thomas Chabrol, Christine Boisson, Michel Duchaussoy, Mary Marquet et Daniel Prévost, which was awarded the Grand Prize at the International London Film Festival and thereafter distributed in France by Warner-Columbia.

Having met Actress Raquel Welch in Paris in 1977, while putting the finishing touches as a screenwriter to his latest feature screenplay and box-office success "La Clé sur la porte" starring famed French actors Patrick Dewaere and Annie Girardot, André Weinfeld decided to move to Hollywood to join and eventually marry her in 1980.

He then started his own Production and Video Distribution Company while producing, writing and directing "From Raquel With Love" with Raquel Welch, Mickey Rooney, Douglas Fairbanks Jr. and James Coco, ABC's then highest rated network variety show, as well as all of Raquel's National Tour and Live Concerts in Las Vegas, Reno and Atlantic City. He subsequently took an active part in the SRO production of the award winning Broadway Musical “Woman of the Year” by Fred Ebb and John Kander, going on to publish and photograph Raquel’s best selling Fitness Book and to direct, write and produce Raquel’s Music Video for CBS Records as well as her Billboard Magazine's and RIAA Multi-Platinum fitness and Yoga videos distributed worldwide by EMI and HBO.

His work as a successful Commercial and Editorial Photographer for the Sygma Corbis news agency has appeared worldwide on the covers and in the pages of Life magazine, Newsweek, Time magazine, Playboy magazine, Paris Match, ELLE, Bunte, Woman's Own, etc. His photographs have also been chosen to represent Hasselblad's renowned professional camera products in one of that company's recent international advertising campaign.

André is an active member of the Writers Guild of America, West (WGAW), the Producers Guild of America (PGA), and the French SACD (Société des Auteurs et Compositeurs Dramatiques).

Divorced from Raquel Welch in 1990, and having since moved back to Paris, André Weinfeld is now working on several film and multimedia projects in France and the USA.
