BIOGRAPHY André de Laval, seigneur de Châtillon, was the son of Guy VIII, sire de Laval, and his second wife Jeanne de Brienne, dame de Loue. In a division of lands in 1292 he received from his father, with the agreement of his older half-brother Guy IX, the lands of Châtillon, Montsurs, Meslay and Courbeveille. On the death of his brother François without progeny by his wife Guienne de Goué, André became his successor in the lordship of Brée.

With his wife Eustacie de Bauçay, dame de Benais, previously married to Guillaume d'Usages and daughter of Hardouin de Bauçay, seigneur de La Motte de Bauçay, and Almurie de Bueil de L'Isle-Bouchard, he had six children of whom two sons and three daughters would have progeny.
