In the early 1840’s Andreas made a debt for the family in Germany and was sent to London. He then immigrated to Australia. Andreas arrived in Adelaide in October 1848 but he arrived under the name of ‘Schmidt ‘ TBC. In October 1851, he wrote to his father from Callington, South Australia, saying that he was working in the copper mines.
Andreas and Elisabeth were married at St John’s Anglican Church, Heidelberg, Victoria in February 1854.
On the wedding certificate he is listed as a farmer from Terry Hill. He used the name George Schmidt.
