BIOGRAPHY Andreas (Andrä) was born in 1579, the son of David Ungnad, Freiherr zu Sonnegg, and Eva Lang von Wellenburg.

In 1601 Andreas married Margarethe von Prag, Freiin von Windhag zu Engelstein, daughter of Friedrich von Prag, Freiherr zu Windhag, and Elisabeth von Rogendorf. They had numerous children, of whom David, Elisabeth Margarethe and Eva would have progeny.

Andreas acquired the castle of Ennsegg in Enns, Upper Austria. He was one of the leaders of the Protestant Estates in Upper Austria in their struggle against their Habsburg rulers. After the Protestant defeat at the Battle of White Mountain outside Prague (8 November 1620), Andreas fled into exile and lived from 1622 in Emden in East Frisia. His highly indebted estates, particularly Ennsegg, were confiscated.

Andreas died in 1623.
