About Andrew (Anders) Carlson (changed to Swedberg)
Andrew Carlson immigrated to the United States in 1868 aboard the steamer ship "City of Washington", and became a U.S. Citizen in 1887.. He was a farmer by profession. He changed his last name from Carlson to Swedberg, a name he picked out a Lutheran Church Hymnal, because his neighbor, another farmer, had the same name. This caused much confusion when mail went into the wrong mailbox, etc. When Andrew (my great grandfather) bought some land, the deed was mistakenly sent to the other Andrew Carlson, who refused to relinquish it.
Andrew Carlson and Anna Peterson were married on 28 October 1866 in Norkoping, Ostergotland, Sweden. They had one daughter, Jenny who was born in Sweden 20 October 1867 but died in 1870 in Plattville, IL. They went on to have 8 more children who survived to adulthood. All were born in northern Illinois.
Andrew died 8 August 1910 of rectal carcinoma and is buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Sycamore, IL
