ANDREW HOLZBERGER SEVERELY INJURED AT LAKE LINDEN.
Lake Linden, May 8-
Friday morning Andrew Holtzberger, a German, Aged 52 years, an employ of the Calumet & Hecla stamp mills, while oiling some shafting in the water-works, was struck by a wire rope that transmits power to the mill machinery. He fell a distance of about 20 feet (6.1 m), receiving three very severe scalp wounds and a depressed fracture of the skull on the right side of the head, which produced complete paralysis of the left side. Drs. Fletcher and Patterson, the mine physicians, successfully performed the operation of trephining the skull, removed the clot and two pieces of broken bone, and elevated the depression. His injuries being so very severe, his chances for recovery are slight, although when heard from last evening he was doing well.
