From the History of Bond and Montgomery Counties, Illinois 1882, Page 256, A Review of the Life of W. W. Whitlow, Harvel, Illinois, an outstanding citizen of his day and a first cousin of Andrew Jackson Thomason.
Andrew Jackson Thomason was the fifth son of Spencer and Mary.
At the age of 18, he entered the service of the U.S. Army during the Civil War in Greene County, Illinois, joining the 61st Illinois Infantry with Captain J. B. Nelton. His regiment commanded by General Jacob Frye. He was in the service 3 years. After being discharged from the Army, feeling the need for an education, he returned to school. He married Mary Jane Swires on September 7, 1869. He was 26 years of age and she was 20.
Frye Park in Carrollton, Illinois was given to the town by the Frye family in memory of General Jacob Frye under whom Andrew Jackson Thomason served during the Civil War.
Married in Carrollton, Illinois in Greene County. His wife, Mary Jane, was born in the state of New Jersey on February 7, 1849.
He was a member of the A.F. and the A.M. at Raymond, Illinois and also a member of the Royal Arch Chapter at Litchfield. In politics, he was a Democrat.
Mr. Thomason has, by his own unaided endeavors, made his life-work, thus far more than ordinarily successful and is entitled to a place among the substantial men of Montgomery County.
