On 18 June 1624, at a court held at St. Magnus Cathedral in Kirkwall, Orkney, the twenty merk udal land of Wester Hougoland, the fifteen merk udal lands of Stenhous with the Holme thereof, together with the fifteen merk udal land of Ollaberrie, all of which are located in the Shetland parish of Northmaven, were apprised from Andrew Mowat, eldest lawful son and heir of the deceased John Mowat of Howgoland at the instance of David Hereot, for not entering as heir to his father. Sasine given to Andrew Mowat, lawful son of Mr. Gilbert Mowat, minister at Northmaven, as attorney for his father in terms of a precept of chancery dated 30 March 1624 in favour of Mr. Gilbert, who obtained letters of apprising against Andrew Mowat of Skae, a son who was charged to enter heir to John Mowat of Howgoland, his deceased father, in the following lands: the two merk and five uris lands of Brabuster in the parish of Northmaven, the seven merk land of Houll there, the three merk land of Houlsquoy there, the three merk land of Houlland and the four and one half merk land of Howsetter there, the four and one half merk land of Oxnasetter there, two merks of Quefirth there, twelve merk land of Lien there, four merk lands of Howgon, four merks lands of Swenisetter, seven merk lands of Kinnieland, two and one half merk lands of Uswick, one merk land of Usnes, fifteen and one half merk land of Howgoland "ex oriente", three merks of Tarvasetter, sixteen merks and two uris land of Sulem, four merk land of Hagrasetter, five and one half merk land of Mangasetter, twelve merk land of Enisfirth, one merk of Hammer, ten and one half merk land of Tangwick, nineteen and one half merk land of Howgoland "ex occidente", twelve merk lands of Stenhouse, three merk lands of Gairdishous, thirty and two merk lands of Brecon, another two merks of udal land there, thirteen merk lands of Foringord (Frangord), one merk land of Houlland, one merk land of Stow, thirty-two merk lands of Hamnavo there, lie Holmes and grass, islands of Lambe and Salue, twelve lie lastis of the lands of Papey Stour, all lying in the parish of Sandnes, all lying in the parish of Northmaven.
