Mr. A.J. Whitfield, age 85, Vidalia, died Saturday, September 22, 2001, at his residence.

The Toombs County native returned to the area in 1977. He was retired from Civil Service at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Augusta, was a veteran of World War II and was a member of New Corinth Baptist Church.

Survivors include on son, Andrew J. Whitfield, Thomson; one brother, Curtis Whitfield, Panama City, Fla.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were conducted Monday, September 24, 2001, at 2:00 p.m. in Galbreath Cemetery with the Reverend Bob Corley officiating.

Murchison Funeral Home of Vidalia was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
