(Fra Jordmora i Bortstua) ndrine died some months before my mother was born. Ragna, my grandmother was pregnant then, and one of Andrine's friends who got very upset about Andrine's death, told everyone that there will be a new Andrine. When my mother's oldest brother, Oliver, was born Andrine used to rock him in the cradle. My mother believes that the cradle where everyone was born is still at the farm house. My uncle Oliver liked to tell the story about Andrine when she walked on her feet to Christiania (the capital) to sell a cow on the market place. It was a walk that took her at least two or three days one way. She had just given birth to one of her children, and she could not bring the toddler along. In order to keep her breast milk, she brought one of the older children along. In the story about the midwife in Bortstua, Andrine is also mentioned. The women in Bortstua and the Taagetorp farm weaved tapestries/cloths that they brought to Christiania. They sold them and according to the story they bought jewellery. My mother tells that Andrine wept a lot, her heart was broken because her brother ended up in prison. They were very close. I have actually found him in the census, where he is listed as "a tugthusfange", a prisoner. He probablyserved a life sentence (?) - we know that he died in prison - because of murder. After a gathering at a tavern, he was challenged by Aleksander (from Bortstua) to revenge a rival. Andrine's brother had fallen in love with a girl, and his rival had made a hit at her. It ended up in a fist fight with a fatal result.
