About Angelo Lencioni
ACCIDENT No. 5. — October 21st. Angelo Lenciani, a timberman in the South Hecla Branch of the Calumet & Hecla Mine, was killed by a piece of vein rock falling on him in the stope at the 28th level north of No. 9 shaft.
An inquest was held by Coroner Fisher.
Charles Freden, upon his oath, says: “I work as a timberman. I know the man that was killed, he was our boss. I was working with him this morning at No. 9 shaft, 28th level north. Was working with him at the time he was killed. He was pinching with the bar, trying to get down the loose rock. I was holding the light for him. I had been pinching down the rock until I got tired. Then the deceased took the bar. I told him to look out for the whole back was loose. He said: "I guess it will stay." The deceased struck the rock three times, when the rock fell from the back of the stope, striking him on his back and knocking him down the mill. Two other men were under the timbers and they took the deceased out from under the rocks and carried him to the shaft and from there to the mine hospital.”
Verdict: “We find that Angelo Lenciani came to his death on the 21st day of October, 1901, by the fall of vein rock from the back of the stope at the 28th level north of No. 9 shaft, South Hecla Branch of the Calumet & Hecla Mine."
