Angus Og MacDonald

The fifth (5) son of Alastair nan Cleas, X Lord of Keppoch, Chief of Clan Donald of Keppoch, Angus was sent to establish a settlement on the River Spean west of Roybridge, a key location to defend against invasion into Clan lands from Glen Spean to the east. The village he established, Achnancoichean (alt. spelling: Achnacochine) lay on the south bank of River Spean, near an island in the river, and almost directly across the river from the Chapel of Cille Choiril which still stands today. The ruins of the village remain there today and are visible in satellite images. Many MacDonnell, MacDonald, McDonald ancestors lie buried in the graveyard of Cille Choiril.
