About Ann Andrews

Biography

Anne Jacobs was the daughter of George Andrews, who was tried and hanged for witchcraft in Salem, Massachusetts. She and her husband, John Andrews, were named in the will of George written 29 Jan 1691/2. John Andrews was executor of said will.[1] She inherited property from her father which she was then able to pass on to her daughters.[2]

John Andrews and Anne Jacobs were married by 1691-2 (cites Gen. Reg. Vol VI p. 206[3])[2] 30 Jan 1706/7 "Anne Andrews of Salem, widow, and relict of John Andrews of Salem, shipwright, decease, in consideration of the love, &c, convey to my three daughters, Anne Gyles, Elizabeth Andrews and Mary Andrews, all my right, &c, to ye estate of my Honoured father George Jacobs, Senr of Salem, deceased, &c. (cites Essex Deeds 19:155)[2]
11 April 1711. "Anne Andrews of Salem, widow, daughter of George Jacobs senior, late of Salem, deceased; John Giles of Salem, seaman, and Anne Giles his wife, one of the grand-daughters of the said George Jacobs; Elizabeth Andrews and Mary Andrews, single-women, grandaughters of said George Jacobs, for £65, convey to John Jacobs of Salem, husbandman, seven acres of land in Salem, at a place known by ye name of Royall Side" etc. The four women made their marks. (cites Essex Deeds 24:105) George Jacobs was hanged at Salem for witchcraft 1692.[2]

Vinton stated *The wife of John Giles had a brother John Andrews, who was with "Capt. Samuel King and others in the Expedition to Canada."[2] Further study has revealed that this John was not the son of Corporal John and Ann Jacobs.[4]
