About Ann Arbuckle

ANN ARBUCKLE

Fake Genealogy

At least seven pedigrees published by MyHeritage claim that Ann Arbuckle, here treated, is the daughter of John Arbuckle and Mary Young. A seventh claims that she is the daughter of John Arbuckle and Rebecca Ross. All eight claim that she was born on 14 October 1770 and that she died on 3 January 1823, and so there is absolutely no doubt about who the authors of these pedigrees had in mind. MyHeritage It is a fact though that John Arbuckle and his wife Mary Young were residents of Carmunock in Lanarkshire, and the father of Ann Arbuckle, here treated, was a resident of Cambuslang in the same county.

The Question of Identity

Ann Arbuckle, here treated, is the daughter of John Arbuckle, a resident in Cambuslang. Her father's place of residence within Cambuslang, as also the name of her mother, is not mentioned in her baptismal record. She was born before 14 October 1770, the date upon which her baptism was registered at Cambuslang in Lanarkshire, Scotland. Her baptismal record reads as follows: "[1770] Octr. 14 Ann, to John Arbuckle.". [National Records of Scotland, Cambuslang Baptisms, 1657-1819, reference OPR.627/1] Image of Baptismal Record

Death

Ann Arbuckle died before 3 January 1823, the date upon which she was buried at Cambuslang in Lanarkshire, Scotland. Her husband appears still to have been alive on this date, for she is referred to as his wife rather than as his widow. It may have been him, therefore, who paid the 3 shillings and six pence due for the hire of the mortcloth. Her burial record reads as follows: "[1823] Jan. 3 Ann Arbuckle wife of Andrew Fyfe 3/6". Marriage

Ann Arbuckle, here treated, married Andrew Fyfe. The marriage was booked on 10 August 1792, at Cambuslang in Lanarkshire, Scotland. The record reads as follows: "[1792] Aug. 10 Andw. Fyfe and Anne Arbuckle both in this parish". [National Records of Scotland, Cambuslang Marriages, 1657-1819, reference OPR.627/1] Image of Marriage Record
