About Ann Mariah Call

Mariah (Ann Maria) Bowen's father died in Pottawattomie Iowa near Council Bluffs in 1847 and she came across the prairie with her father less family in 1849 to Salt Lake City Utah when she was 15. She drove an ox wagon over 1,000 miles to get there and was already known as a plucky, hard working woman by the time she turned 16. She was introduced to Anson Call by Brigham Young at a General Conference around April 1 1851 and they were married by Brigham Young about two weeks later (April 15, 1851) as Anson's second wife. Mariah and Anson were the town builders, road builders etc. as she accompanied him on most of his expeditions away from Bountiful including, Fillmore, Parowan, Call's Fort (9 miles above Brigham City), Carson Valley in Nevada, Callville on the Colorado river in Arizona and others. She and Anson had seven children that are born in many of the different settlements Anson and her were called on to establish. She and Anson were divorced in 1867 after some disagreements.
